Seed Lending Libraries
The Orange Seed Lending Library is a free self-serve system located at the Main Orange Public Library, Taft Library, and El Modena Branch Library in the city of Orange, and every third Saturday of the month at the Farmers Market. Community members are invited to borrow seeds for their garden and return seeds to share with others in the community. Seed donations are accepted at the Main Orange Library and at the farmers market information booth.
Youth Food Literacy Program
The Orange Home Grown Youth Food Literacy Program (YFLP) is a nine month course where Orange Unified School District (OUSD) high school students engage in the entire food production cycle, from seed to dinner table, and beyond. This course gives them the tools to make powerful choices related to food, their health, and their future. It offers opportunities for volunteering and potential job experiences after the program ends.
Hart Park Orange Grove Maintenance
The City of Orange and the Orange Home Grown Foundation partner together to support the clean-up and maintenance of the Robert D. Hoyt Historic Grove, along with the harvesting of the fruit. Easily 10,000+ pounds of citrus are harvested each year by dedicated volunteers and donated to local organizations such as Abound Food Care, who help distribute the fruit to those in need throughout Orange and surrounding cities.
