Today is Registered Dietitian day, which recognizes the country’s food and nutrition experts, as part of National Nutrition Month. The National Nutrition Month theme this year, which is Savor the Flavor, is so easy to do when you visit the Orange Home Grown Farmers & Artisans Market once a week. In fact, at the farmer’s market, you can savor sights, sounds, textures and flavors of the bounty farmers and artisans have brought. Plus, you take in the entire experience of interacting with the farmers and community. These combined experiences enrich the flavor of our food. When you shop at the farmer’s market, you are only purchasing foods that are in season and locally grown, meaning they have not traveled thousands of miles to be available to us. Both of these characteristics mean the food is more flavorful and retains nutritional value.
